Social media and its application in online marketing has undergone a massive shift over the years. The popular social media mantra, “Content is King” remains the same, but the content and its creation is likely to change in the coming years. The impact of social media has exploded exponentially over the years, giving rise to new gateways for branding and business in general. Social media will increasingly act as the front door to all business ventures, reaching out to their target audience.Shift towards Visual Content Marketing

Facebook reports that it generates 8 billion video views per day. Snapchat is not far behind, generating over 6 billion views, 3 times more the viewsit has in the last 6 months.
Real time video marketing is a trend that had dominated the market last year. This trend is likely to continue in 2016 as well. Periscope and Meerkat are examples of this phenomenon. The ability to share something while it is happening has larger scope of communication. The ability to see the world from different perspectives will contribute in bringing the world closer. Snapchat and Instagram have brought in video features showing that they are buying into this trend. Pinterest announced a visual search feature that allows users to click a picture and use that picture as search keyword.
2. Instant articles
Some trends indicate that instant articles and blogs will become popular again as suggested by Facebook’s introduction of Instant articles, a tool that will allow small publishers to publish using WordPress. These Instant articles are specially formatted web pages that are directly hosted on the Facebook servers. This poses a direct threat to Google as they make large revenues from small publishers. Facebook will also allow ad posting on their mobile networks enabling publishers to make revenue from their instant articles!
Social media and SEO has been going hand-in-hand for quite some time now. And this trend is not likely to change in 2016. In fact, we will witness new aspects of interrelationship in this year. Better the social media usage, more will the organic signals generated. Social media has always had an indirect effect on search results. 33% of traffic from Google’s organic search result goes to the first item listed. Social content is becoming more and more visible on search results. Social media content can increase the visibility of a company. This is important considering how business ventures are inventing more into social media driven SEO strategies and related ad campaigns.
4. Mobile First!
In 2016, the mobile traffic has already surpassed that of desktop in 10 countries.Concentrating on marketing strategies that use mobile devices thus becomes imperative. Statistics show that 14% of the millennials, refuse to do business with companies that do not have an app. Social media has been at the forefront at adopting mobile – both in native and web formats. This year, we may see new innovations from Social Media channels in using Mobile mediums.
